At the March 18 meeting, the GUSD Board of Education approved a plan to return our preschool to elementary students back to campuses.

Our Path Back to Campuses

The Reopening Planning Committee and district staff are taking many steps to prepare for the eventual reopening of schools and for submission of GUSD’s COVID-19 Safety Plan. These efforts are aligned with the most recent guidance from California’s Public Health Department. 

These are the important steps being taken to implement the “layers of safety” included in the State guidance:

When will Schools reopen? 

In accordance with directives from the California Public Health Department and the Santa Clara County Public Health Department, the GUSD Reopening Planning Committee recommended that the District remain in distance learning until two key metrics are met:

Santa Clara County moves into the State's Red Tier for five consecutive days.  

The seven-day average case rate for Gilroy is less than 25/100,000 for at least five consecutive days.


WHERE ARE WE? As of March 16: Gilroy's seven-day average case rate is 8.2/100,000.  [GUSD reopening condition met.]



WHERE ARE WE? As of March 16: Santa Clara County is in the Red Tier.  [GUSD reopening condition met.]

  • March 23: General information meeting for GUSD preschool and elementary families
     
  • March 24: School-specific meetings for all preschool and elementary schools.
     
  • March 25: Middle school and high school students will remain in distance learning for the remainder of the 2020-21 school year. 
     
  • March 28: Answers to decision forms for preschool and elementary students are due. 
     
  • April 15: On-campus cohorts of pre-K to 2nd grades return to school. New distance learning schedule begins.  
     
  • April 19: On-campus cohorts of 3rd to 5th grades to return to school. New distance learning schedule begins.
