CYBHI Information

What is CYBHI?

The California Children and Youth Behavioral Health Initiative (CYBHI) is a multi-year, multi-billion dollar program to transform California's behavioral health system for children and young people up to age 25. Its main goal for families is to improve access to and the quality of mental health and substance-use services, particularly in school-linked services, with no out-of-pocket costs for families.

What does CYBHI cover?

CYBHI will cover mental health services for young people up to age 25 by partnering with schools, health plans, and community organizations. It aims to make it easier for children and teens to access free, quality care in school and community settings. This includes a focus on prevention and early intervention. Families will not incur out-of-pocket costs for school-linked services, and a student's insurance status does not prevent them from receiving support.

Why should parents/guardians give consent?

The CYBHI initiative enables GUSD to provide free, school-linked services such as counseling and screenings on school campuses. There are no out-of-pocket costs for these services. GUSD's partnership with CYBHI will allow schools to continue to provide vital mental health and wellness support for students. The program helps ensure sustainability of Wellness Centers by allowing for reimbursement whether a student has Medi-Cal or private insurance. To utilize these services, please provide health insurance information and consent during the annual student information updates.

GUSD's collaboration with CYBHI allows the district to continue:

  • School-based mental health services
  • Retain staffing for mental health and wellness
  • Maintain operations for the Wellness Centers
  • Family and parent engagement activities to bring awareness of mental health and wellness
  • Direct mental health services and interventions for students

GUSD is dedicated to providing a safe space for young people to connect with resources and support their well-being. CYBHI funding helps us meet young people where they are and provide necessary care.
