Arts and Music Funding

On November 8, 2022, California voters approved Proposition 28: The Arts and Music in Schools (AMS) Funding Guarantee and Accountability Act. The measure required the state to establish a new, ongoing program supporting arts instruction in schools beginning in the 2023–24 school year.  Proposition 28 aims to enhance, not replace, existing arts and music education programs.

The remaining 20% of funds can be allocated to training, supplies, materials, and arts partnership programs, with a maximum of 1% allowed for administrative expenses.

Starting in the 2023-2024 school year, every school is apportioned a Total School Site AMS Allocation each year. This amount will vary each year and is based on the prior year pupil enrollment and prior year enrollment of pupils eligible for free or reduced-price meals.
