Before School Starts ...

Important: ParentSquare information

GUSD uses ParentSquare for school communication, primarily with email, text and app notifications. ParentSquare automatically generates an account for each parent, using their preferred email address and phone number. We encourage parents to access their accounts so they can download the mobile app and update their preferences on when and how they are notified.

It is critical that we have correct contact information for you in order for you to receive ParentSquare notifications. If you need to make a change to a cell phone number or email address on your child's accont, please contact their school site directly. The District Office cannot make those changes.

Note: ParentSquare for the 2023-24 school year will be active on the first day of school. Until then, guardians will not be able to view any new information for their students, including: class schedules and teachers.

Q: When can I expect an invite to sign up for a Parent Square account if my student is new to GUSD?

A: Expect an email with a ParentSquare invite one or two days before school starts.

Q: My child is new to GUSD. Can you add them to my ParentSquare account?

A: Once we activate Parent Square for the new school year, accounts will update automatically and your child will appear on your account. If this is not the case it is likely that we have incorrect contact information on file for you. Please check in with your child's school for help in confirming your contact information (cell and email).

Q: How do I set up Student Square or the Aeries student Portal for my child?

A: Your child can download the app on their phone and log in on the first day of school, using the email provided by the school.

Q: I would like to send my child's teacher a message through ParentSquare, but I can't seem to find who my child's new teacher is.

A: You will be able to message your child's teacher after ParentSquare for the new school year is activated on the first day of school.

For elementary school students (grades TK-5)

View breakfast and lunch menus for elementary school students. Meals are free for all students in GUSD.

Mark your calendars! Wednesdays are early dismissal days for elementary school students.

Teacher assignments will be finalized close to the start of the year. You'll be notified by your school when that information is available.

Before and after school care is available at our elementary schools through Power School. Learn more about the Power School program.

All students in GUSD are issued a District Chromebook. Chromebooks for elementary school students do not come home.

Volunteer Information

Anyone who wishes to volunteer at GUSD schools must complete a simple volunteer certification process. Start the process.

Note: parents who wish to serve as a volunteer driver for GUSD must be certified as a volunteer and complete additional certification steps.

For middle school students (grades 6, 7 and 8)

Some suggested school supplies include: a 2-3 inch binder, tab dividers, lined college-ruled binder paper, graph paper or composition book, highlighters, pens (red/blue), pencils, erasers, ruler, and a folder for loose papers.

Class schedules and teacher assignments will also be available close to the start of the school year. Schools will communicate with families about schedule pick-up.

Many extracurricular activities are offered in middle school,
including band, choir, and student leadership (ASB) and other clubs. Information will be communicated to students at school and to families via ParentSquare.

Students have P.E. every day. They are required to dress in P.E. clothes, which are stored in lockers during the school week and should be laundered regularly at home. More details are sent home the first few days of school. Students will receive a t-shirt, shorts, and lock for free.

A number of athletic opportunities are available for middle school students, including: cross country, basketball, wrestling, volleyball, soccer, track and field, and softball. See your school's website for a list of sports, seasons and more details.

All middle school students are issued a District Chromebook for the school year. The device should be taken home daily to complete assignments and homework. GUSD offers Chromebook insurance to offset the cost of replacing a lost or damaged device. Learn more.

For high school students (grades 9, 10, 11 and 12)

All high school students are issued a District Chromebook for the school year. The device should be taken home daily to complete assignments and homework. GUSD offers Chromebook insurance to offset the cost of replacing a lost or damaged device. Learn more.

Bell schedules for CHS, GHS, and GECA changed during the 2022-23 school year. Make sure you're aware of current start and dismissal times.

Information about your student's academic progress, including grades, class schedules and teachers, can be viewed on the Aeries platform. You can access Aeries from a desktop computer or download and use the app on your mobile device. Learn more.

Register to Volunteer

Anyone who wishes to volunteer at GUSD schools must complete a the volunteer certification process. Start the process.

Volunteers who have already been certified by GUSD must complete an annual recertification process. These volunteers who need to recertify with GUSD will receive an email notification with link to login to TalentED/PowerSchool Records. Volunteer Recertification is three tasks:

Update/ verify personal information
Submit Self-Declaration statement
Complete Keenan Safe Schools mandated child abuse prevention training course.

There is no need to complete the volunteer interest form again.

Immunization Requirements

By law, children in California are required to receive certain immunizations in order to attend public and private elementary and secondary schools. Schools are required to enforce immunization requirements, maintain records of all children enrolled, and submit reports. Learn more.
