At the September 18, 2025 board meeting, the GUSD Board of Education appointed Steven Rivera as the new GUSD Information Technology (IT) Supervisor.
Steven Rivera has over eight years of experience in Information Technology and more than fifteen years in customer service. He started off his work experience in retail while attending school. Here he learned the importance of professional courtesy and time management. During this time he met and spoke with the store’s IT support and upon that conversation made it a goal to work in the IT field.
His love for technology landed him his first IT role as a Technology Support Technician for Navigator Schools in 2017. There he began learning the intricacies of the school site and all that comes with it. His collaboration with all stakeholders enabled him to assist with the build out of the school site going from a K-5 to a K-8 location. At this point he was serving a school with 536 students and 50+ staff members establishing strong work relationships.
He then took an opportunity to bring his best practices to the wider network and acquired the position of Technology Coordinator. During this time he became more familiar with the various systems the department had to manage eventually becoming the lead administrator and frequently collaborating with on site technicians. For three years he worked with all four school locations overseeing the day-to-day operations for the department, ensuring high customer satisfaction, supporting on-site technicians, and addressing needs from IT and site leadership.
Steven is originally from Hollister and resides in San Juan Bautista. He is a computer enthusiast at heart and wants to ensure every student has the opportunity to work with the various technologies the district can provide.
