Trustee Kenny Moreno
Kenny Moreno was appointed to the Gilroy Unified School District Board of Education in November 2024 and is assigned to Trustee Area 5. He appointed to a four-year term after running unopposed, effective December 19,
2024.
A lifelong resident of the area, Kenny graduated from Live Oak High School in 1992. He and his wife, Michelle, moved to Gilroy in August 2015 with their three children, who all attended El Roble Elementary. Their children now attend Brownell Middle School (6th and 8th grade) and Gilroy High School (11th grade).
In 2014, Kenny and Michelle founded their own small business, allowing him to devote more time to volunteering in their children’s schools. Kenny's involvement with his children’s schools began shortly after they moved to Gilroy. He
became active at El Roble Elementary, serving in various roles, including two years on the School Site Council. He was also the parent representative to the Superintendent’s Parent Advisory Council (SPAC) for three years and held leadership roles in the Home and School Club, including two years as Vice President and two years as President.
Additionally, Kenny has supported Gilroy High School by serving as its parent representative to SPAC and participating in the hiring committee for a new principal. He and Michelle also contributed to the WASC (Western Association of Schools and Colleges) accreditation process at Gilroy High, seeing the school achieve its highest possible status—six-year accreditation. His hands-on experience at the school level also includes directly supporting teachers, staff, and students, giving him valuable insight into the daily workings of a school and how it interacts with the GUSD office.
Beyond the schools, Kenny and his family are active members of South Valley Community Church. He enjoys volunteering and participating in several ministries.
As a School Board Trustee, Kenny is committed to collaborating with fellow Board of Education members and Superintendent Munshi to keep our focus on student safety, attendance, educational quality, fiscal responsibility, facility improvements and teacher/parent communication. His goal is to increase parent engagement across all GUSD schools and programs, believing that parent involvement is a key factor in unlocking educational success for all our students.
